About
A professional journey shaped across more than two decades
I am a first-generation architect. No one in my family had drawn a building before me, and so the profession was something I had to find rather than inherit.
It found me, in part, at Ramjas School — through an engineering-drawing teacher to whom I remain indebted, and who first turned my attention toward the discipline. A seat at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi followed; whether by my own effort or my mother's blessing, I have never fully decided.
I learned the profession by practising it. Exhibitions came first — ideas built into reality within weeks — and work alongside large corporates through Enterprise Nexus. Showrooms followed, and with them the entrepreneurs who built them. Before long I had become one myself.
In 2000, that path became a practice: Fd Design, which I co-founded with Ar. Vaishali Sharma. The work since has moved across every scale — private residences, estates, commercial and corporate interiors, and large industrial campuses — held to a single way of thinking.
Today my attention sits increasingly upstream: architecture, development strategy, hospitality opportunities, and the strategic decisions that shape a project before design begins — alongside the longer question of how a place continues to serve, decades after it is handed over.
I learned the profession by travelling its lanes and by-lanes — never shying from the work, and learning in the doing.
The Idea That Named a Practice
The Fourth Dimension
A building is never only the thing you see. It is the thing you move through, return to, and remember. That conviction is where my way of working began — and it is the reason the firm carries the idea in its name.

Most architecture is judged at the moment of completion — the photograph, the handover, the first impression. But that moment is the shortest part of a building's life. Everything meaningful happens afterward: in how light shifts across a room through the day, how a family grows into a home, how a corridor wears, how a place is maintained, left, and come back to.
I came to think of this as a fourth dimension — time added to the three we are taught to draw. Once you design for it, the questions change. You stop asking only how a space looks, and start asking how it will live.
This is not a style. It is a discipline of attention. It is why I begin with the larger context before the drawings, and why I care as much about the decades after completion as the months before it.
Fd Design shows how the philosophy is applied. This site is where it came from.

Understanding land, people, ambition, constraint, and long-term relevance before anyone reaches for a drawing. The first brief often carries only part of the real question.

Converting scattered ideas, family expectations, business ambition, and site reality into a single coherent direction everyone can build toward.

Keeping aesthetics, cost, material, drawing, and future use connected — so the idea that survives to completion is the one that began.

Knowing when a project needs clarity first
Some projects don't need more drawings. They need alignment, decisions, priorities, and strategic correction. Recognising which is which saves years.

A Practice Across Generations

My daughter graduated from SPA Delhi in 2025 and has since joined the practice — twenty-six years after I walked the same corridors.
